狂者进取狷者有所不为。
子曰：“不得中行而与之，必也狂狷乎！狂者进取，狷者有所不为也。”
孟子曰：“孔子岂不欲中道哉？不可必得，故思其次也。”所谓狂者，“其志嘐嘐然，曰：‘古之人！古之人！’夷考其行而不掩焉者也。狂者又不可得，欲得不屑不洁之士而与之，是狷也，是又其次也。”
包咸曰：“狂者进取于善道，狷者守节无为。欲得此二人者，以时多进退，取其恒一。”
朱子曰：“狂者，志极高而行不掩。狷者，知未及而守有余。盖圣人本欲得中道之人而教之，然既不可得，而徒得谨厚之人，则未必能自振拔而有为也。故不若得此狂狷之人，犹可因其志节，而激厉裁抑之以进于道，非与其终于此而已也。”
1927年，在陆徵祥弃官为僧后，有报纸这样评论：
“数千年来，中国之所以维持士夫风纪于不坠者，功不在狂者而在狷者。盖狷者自豪，有所不为也。况当此乱世，举世皆无不可为之人，而实一无可为之士。自好之士，处境弥苦，而不亦更可珍贵者哉。”
大致，我们仍然是在这样一个乱世之中吧。不仅不可为，直是不可说。
基本上我不太相信，人作为一个整体，是在不断进步中的；基本上我也不太相信，个人的努力是有意义的，甚至是有指向性的。虽然我相信，人仍然具有进步的可能性，以及，值得为此做出努力。
似乎记得朱子还说，今日见人多以有不为来名书斋，何不见一“进取斋”？所以，归根结底，还是要认下头去做。
孟子直接便说“狷也是又其次也”，朱子则说要“因其志节而激厉裁抑之”。
所以我说：月照西乡，吾与足下分任之吧。
